Meet the Relxtime Octagonal Black Gold Inflatable Hot Tub. This affordable spa brings luxury to your backyard without the huge price tag of permanent tubs. So below is my complete Relxtime octagonal inflatable hot tub review.
I was skeptical at first. Could an inflatable tub really deliver a good experience?
The answer surprised me. This octagonal tub seats 4-6 people comfortably and has 130 bubble jets for relaxation. It’s super easy to set up – just inflate, fill with water, and heat.
No need for special wiring either. It runs on regular home outlets, unlike traditional hot tubs that need expensive electrical work. And when you’re done for the season, just drain, deflate, and store it away.
Bring it with you when you move, or even in an RV ff you go on long camping trips.
For well under $600, it’s hard to beat the value. Let’s dive deeper into what makes this portable spa worth considering. Also check out my complete unboxing video on my YouTube channel linked below.

Relxtime Octagonal Inflatable Hot Tub – What’s in the Box?
The Relxtime package arrives with everything needed for immediate setup. When I unboxed mine, I was impressed by how complete the package was.
Here’s what you’ll find inside:
- Octagonal inflatable hot tub (black with gold accents)
- Insulated cover with safety lock clips
- Floating Inflatable Bladder (goes under the cover and floats on the surface)
- 2 filter cartridges with protective covers
- Inflation hose
- EVA puzzle floor mat
- Insulated quilted ground cloth
- Plastic cup holder
- LED light (requires 3 AAA batteries, not included)
- Water test strips
- Storage bag
- Patch kit for emergency repairs
- Detailed instruction booklet
- Power cord with built-in GFCI protection
I was surprised that they included both a repair patch kit and water test strips – items other manufacturers often make you purchase separately. The GFCI-protected power cord is a nice safety touch too. Having everything in one box means you can start enjoying your hot tub the same day it arrives, without running to the store for missing essentials.
How Long Does it Take to Set Up the Relxtime Octagonal Inflatable Hot Tub?
Setting up the Relxtime hot tub is surprisingly quick. Based on my testing, the initial setup takes about 15 minutes.
First, find a flat spot with no sharp objects underneath. The included puzzle mat and insulated ground cloth help protect both your patio or deck surface and the tub bottom. Unroll the tub and attach the inflation hose to the built-in pump (see my unboxing video below for details).
The inflation process is super fast. It takes less than 10 minutes for the tub to fully inflate. This is way quicker than many similar models that need separate pumps.
After inflation, you’ll need to attach the filters, which just screw on (though be careful not to cross-thread them). Then comes the longest part – filling with water.

How Long Does it Take to Fill Up?
Filling the Relxtime Octagonal Hot Tub takes about 40 minutes with my regular garden hose. The tub holds about 264 gallons (1,000 liters) of water.
I found it’s best to stay nearby while filling. You don’t want to forget and end up with a flooded yard!
The tub has clearly marked minimum and maximum fill lines on the inside wall. I made sure to fill it right up to the maximum line without going over. Going below the minimum or above the maximum can cause problems with the heating system and jets.
How Long Does it Take to Heat Up?
The heating time for the Relxtime hot tub depends on your starting water temperature and outside conditions. With typical hose water between 68-75°F, expect heating at a rate of about 1.5-2°F per hour.
This means a full heat-up from 70°F to the maximum 104°F would take approximately 17-23 hours. Ambient air temperature makes a big difference in heating efficiency.
So if it’s really warm outside, you may find it heats in just 8 hours. See the handy chart above.
As with all inflatable and plug ‘n Play hot tubs (the kind that just plug in), this comes with a 1kw heater (compared to a 4kw heater common on 220v hot tubs). This also means the jets and heater can’t work at the same time; so don’t run the jets while heating. I found using the insulated cover essential during heating to trap warmth and speed up the process.
Once at your desired temperature, the tub maintains it well, especially if you keep the cover on when not using it.
Does the Relxtime Octagonal Inflatable Hot Tub Hold Temp in Cold Weather?
The Relxtime hot tub holds temperature surprisingly well in cold weather. Its insulation system is quite effective, as it comes with both an inflatable bladder that floats on the water surface and a quilted insulated cover that fits over the entire tub.
This dual-layer insulation helps trap heat efficiently. The inflatable bladder prevents heat from escaping through the water surface, while the quilted cover adds another layer of protection against the cold.
The tub’s freeze protection feature is another big plus for cold weather use. This automatic heating system activates when temperatures approach 41°F (4°C) to prevent internal components from freezing.
According to the product information, you shouldn’t install the tub in temperatures below 39.2°F (4°C). But with proper insulation, it functions well in cool environments.
In the Gadgeteer review, one user reported keeping their tub in a garage with temperatures around 45°F without any heating problems. They added extra insulation around three sides of the tub for additional protection.
The bubble function does cool the water in cold conditions. One reviewer noted the temperature dropping from 103°F to 99°F after just 20 minutes of bubble use in 30-degree weather. This happens because the bubbles circulate ambient air through the hot water.
For the best cold-weather performance, I’d recommend keeping bubble sessions brief and making sure both the floating bladder and insulated cover are properly secured when the tub isn’t in use.
Relxtime Inflatable Hot Tub Maintenance and Lifespan
Keeping your Relxtime hot tub in top shape does require a little bit of effort, but it’s nothing too difficult. Here’s what you’ll need to do to keep it going:
Balancing the Water:
Similar to maintaining a pool, it’s important to monitor the pH, alkalinity, and chlorine (or bromine) sanitizer levels to keep the water clean and safe. Adding shock treatment to the hot tub on a weekly basis is recommended.
Regularly testing the water and making adjustments as needed is essential for preventing bacteria growth and ensuring the water remains fresh and inviting.
For a comprehensive guide on hot tub chemicals, including all the do’s and dont’s and timelines, check out this article on my website – https://hottubownerhq.com/maintaining-hot-tub-water-clarity/
Cleaning the Filters:
Filters play a key role in maintaining clear water by trapping unwanted debris. It’s important to rinse them every three weeks using a hose or sink sprayer and to perform a thorough cleaning with a filter cleaner every three months. Regular filter maintenance ensures the system runs efficiently and keeps the water sparkling clean.

Changing the Water Every 3 Months:
Even with perfect water chemistry and filtration, it’s essential to replace your hot tub water every three months. This refresh keeps the water clean and inviting while giving you a chance to deep clean the tub before refilling it.
Following this routine helps maintain your hot tub as a stress-free retreat. For easy draining, you can either open the drain plug or use a submersible pump, which empties the tub in under five minutes with a 25′ hose for precise water placement.

Final Thoughts: Worth Every Penny
The Relxtime Octagonal Hot Tub is truly impressive. After testing it for several weeks, I’m sold on this affordable luxury.
Relxtime beats competitors hands down. The construction is simply better. My friend’s Coleman started leaking after a month, but this one holds air perfectly.
Setup couldn’t be easier. Unlike other brands that have annoying external pump units, everything is built right in. Just plug it in and you’re good to go.
Heat-up time is reasonable too. From cold water to toasty 104°F took about two days, but it maintains temperature well after that.
For under $500, you’re getting an inflatable spa that lasts. Many owners report using theirs for years without issues.
If you want hot tub luxury without spending thousands, this is your answer. Relxtime has created something special here. I recommend it without hesitation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the most reliable inflatable hot tub?
Based on customer reviews and my unboxing and testing of two different models (and also owning 2 from Intex), Relxtime stands out as the most reliable inflatable hot tub brand. Their octagonal model has impressive durability with its vertical “I-beam” construction that resists punctures and maintains shape.
Many reviewers note that their Relxtime tubs hold air perfectly for months without needing refills. One Gadgeteer reviewer mentioned, “It’s sturdy and holds air well – I’ve not had to add any additional air in the month that I’ve been testing it.”
Relxtime’s hot tubs also feature better construction than competitors like Coleman, with fewer reports of leaking or failures. Their full range of models consistently earns high marks for reliability.
Are inflatable hot tubs worth it?
Absolutely! Inflatable hot tubs like the Relxtime Octagonal model offer amazing value compared to permanent spas. They cost a fraction of the price (under $500 vs. thousands) and don’t require expensive 220V electrical work.
I was skeptical at first, but the comfort level is surprisingly good. The walls are sturdy enough to lean against, and the bottom has adequate padding when you’re floating in water.
Plus, you can deflate and store them when not in use. As one reviewer put it, “I never thought we’d own a hot tub despite everyone really enjoying them. But the Relxtime has overcome all my concerns about cost, power needs, and permanence.”
What is the disadvantage of an inflatable hot tub?
Higher Energy Costs
The Relxtime inflatable hot tub uses about 20% more electricity than a comparable hard-sided spa. This is mainly because inflatable models have less insulation, so they work harder to maintain temperature.
Air Bubbles vs. Water Jets
Unlike permanent hot tubs with powerful water jets, these have air bubbles that don’t provide the same massage quality. The bubbles can actually cool the water in cold weather since they circulate ambient air through your hot water.
No Built-in Seating
There’s no molded seating like in traditional spas. You sit on the padded floor and lean against the sides, which some people find less comfortable for long soaking sessions.
Space Requirements
While storable, the tub takes up significant space when in use. One reviewer mentioned it occupied half their patio. Make sure you have adequate room before purchasing.
What is the life expectancy of an inflatable hot tub?
With proper care, a Relxtime inflatable hot tub can last 5 years or more. The durable laminated PVC material with I-beam construction makes these tubs more resistant to punctures and tears than cheaper models.
One reviewer mentioned “using theirs for years without issues.”
I will also add the 1st Intex inflatable hot tub I bought only lasted about 2 years with very little use before getting a puncture that I was unable to patch.
To maximize lifespan, avoid placing the tub on sharp objects, don’t leave it in direct sunlight for extended periods, and store it properly when not in use. The included repair kit can fix minor damage if it occurs.
